This has been bothering me since the first time I read book four, and I'm not sure whether it's been explained or not, since I've never really talked on an HP fansite before this one.
When Harry and Voldemort's wands connected during Priori Incantatem Voldemort's victims started coming out in reverse order from when they died: Cedric, the old man, Bertha, James and Lily.
Why did Lily come out after James? She died after he did, making her death more recent, meaning that she should have come out before James did, going in reverse order.
Was this simply a mistake on JK's part, or was some sort of explanation I'm missing?

oh, btw- this is me asking. The site randomly logged me out and I didn't notice... when it was asking for a name I thought it was asking for a name of the topic. lol.

haha, must have run out of time on your thing.
I thought that Lily comes out before James? Doesn't she say "your father's coming"? Maybe I need to re-read.

no, it goes the opposite way- James comes out and says "your mother's coming." lol, unless the American editors just messed it up for us.

I shall go check, then we can make sure, lol.
Edit: well, I just checked my edition of GoF, and indeed Lily comes out first. Guess the American editors did just screw it up. *shrugs*

seriously???
My book:
And now another head was emerging from the tip of Voldemort's wand... and Harry knew when he saw it who it would be... he knew as though he had expected it from the moment when Cedric had appeared from the wand... knew, because the man appearing was the one he'd thought of more than any other tonight...
The smoky shadow of a tall man with untidy hair fell to the ground as Bertha had done, straightened up, and looked at him... and Harry, his arms shaking madly now, looked back into the ghostly face of his father.
"You're mother's coming..." he said quietly. "She wants to see you... it will be all right... hold on..."

It's been officially stated (I think) that the American version reversed the order by accident. The British version has the correct order: Lily, then James.

eugh... stupid scholastic, reprinting it wrong.
You know, I was actually thinking that there was going to be a reason behind it- like what we thought had happened that day really hadn't or something. James dodged out of the way of Voldemort's attack somehow and survived until later... *shrug*

The way I understand it (because it was a big question right after GoF came out), was that in all first runs of the book, US and UK, it had James coming out first because that's how JK wrote it. Then, when the mistake was discovered, she went back and fixed it for the next printings of the books, having Lily come out first.

oh, well that actually does make me feel better. Fixing a mistake is a lot more sensible than accidentally messing up something that was right in the first place. And I did get GoF the first day it came out, so that'd work.

I got GoF long after, so I guess that does make sense. I was one of these people who had to reserve at the library, lol.
