[A/N: I have not read the sixth book, I know it isn't very good but i'm not a writer. This story is completely seperate from the HP series storyline and I note that you may pick a new Headmaster/Headmistress of your choosing.]
Another year back at Hogwarts, thought Ron Weasley, who now at a manly age of 17 could not help but look in every mirror, puddle or shinny slate of metal at his reflection. Which he did so as he steered his trolley towards Platform 9 3/4.
Harry Potter, now also at the age of 17 did not look at himself, but at other people. Especially females. Ron gave a mental sigh as he glanced at Harry's trolley which had almost doubled it's capacity, where as his was not even at half. Ron often controlled his envy for Harry, but he did admit, it was hard.
As routine, the two passed through into the platform, entered the train which still looked very old, and found a cabin to occupy. Hermione Granger, as routine, soon found them.
"Harry, how are you?" Hermione asked sitting down reading a rather large book, not taking any chance to glance up at him.
"Fine, and you?"
Hermione did not answer with words, she simply hummed a positive note that Harry took as a "yes".
Ron didn't mind being ignored, he was used to it seeing as he hadn't spoken to Hermione ever since the incident during the holidays. So he just sat, looking at his muscles in the dusty window, which he did for a long time.
Harry decided to break the awkward silence by clearing his throat, "So you - erm - are you -" Harry was finding this very hard as Hermione had not sent him a letter all holidays, but Harry was keen to ask.
"Where have my letters ended up?" He asked with a tone of spite in his voice.
Hermione realized Harry wasn't happy, "Hm? Letters?"
"Yes, the letters I kept sending, why haven't y-"
"You sent letters?" Hermione burst in, she seemed surprised and relieved at the same time.
"Yes, plenty." Harry leant foreword, "You ... didn't get them?"
"No. I thought you had ignored me all this time!" Hermione had closed her book.
Ron gave a loud, congested snore, he was already asleep.
"Why is he so tired?" Hermione asked Harry, who told her that Ron had been up all night trying to find the perfect way to apologize to her and had even rejected meals.
Hermione sighed, He only has to say sorry, not bake me a cake, she thought as she left to change into her robes, nodding her head towards the door as to instruct Harry to do the same.
Ron was still asleep by the time they were almost at their destination, Harry decided to throw Bertie Bott's at him until he woke up, which he did so to eat them.
"Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?" Ron said through a yawn, "Has the trolley come round..." He said almost falling asleep once more, but was stopped by a stab in the arm by Hermione.
"You should get changed, Ron." Hermione said without looking at him, "We're almost there."
Ron didn't say a word and left the cabin to change. Leaving Harry and Hermione in another awkward silence.
"I think-" They both said together but stopped and look away from each other.
Harry picked up a Daily Prophet he found in the rack above him and read the first page.
"Death Eaters Expand." Harry muttered to himself and read the rest of the way. Hermione had also begun to read again. Ron soon joined them and regained his old place and continued to rest.
Pretending to read once he finished the first page story as the train reached it's station, Harry thought about Dumbledore and why he even came back to Hogwarts. With him dead, Harry wasn't safe and didn't have the fatherly guidance or wisdom that he provided. He thought about this as they left the train and was on the way to Hogwarts Castle.
Routine again, into the Great Hall, into your seat and wait for the first years to arrive to start the sorting. But it hit Harry, who was going to replace Dumbledore? As soon as he thought this Harry acutely whipped his head around to glance at Dumbledore old seat. It was empty.
Harry searched the room looking for a Headmaster with no luck and soon gave up. He decided to just stare at his goblet for a few minutes. Just as he relaxed in his seat the east entrance of the Great Hall burst open, Harry looked up in amazement as he saw...
