Hey.
Welcome to the Trivia thread. This is just a light hearted game to get your house some points and to test your Harry Potter knowledge.
The rules are as follows: - No one other than myself is to post on this thread, if you have any queries, or wish to answer a question, you are to send it in a personal message. - With any guesses, please state in the message your house and name. If you are not sorted when you guess, just say 'unsorted', it will be fixed later when the points are given. - Three guesses a week per log in - Points will be given to your house for correct answers, they will vary with the difficulty of the questions, extra detail can also lead to bonus points. - One question a week, updated every Thursday, the answer of the old question will also be posted at the same time as the new question and the points will be awarded at that point. - I will reply to your pm when I receive it to tell you if you were correct or not and inform you how many guesses you have left. - You may send trivia questions of your own to me via pm, the answer MUST be included with this. You will get points for your house IF the question is used. You are not to answer your own question. - If you know you have been successful, you are not to tell others the answer, if it is your own question, the same is true. - If you disagree with one of my answers, send me a personal message and we will discuss it further, you will need evidence, such as which book, chapter/page you have gotten this information from, keep in mind the varying details between continents. - Unless specified otherwise, all questions refer to the books. Extra details can be included by comparing it to the movies, but only as an added point.[/color] - Please make sure you are signed in also, so I can reply to you how you went. - Have fun!!

To keep in the spirits of the upcoming book, this question will be based from the sixth book. It will also be multiple questions, which are quite simple, each worth a point each, if you get them all correct, you get an extra point too, just to celebrate this being the first week of Trivia. Enjoy.
Question One
Who is Phlegm? Who gave them this name? Who is Phlegm to marry? What was it who almost stopped this marriage?
Remember, the more detail, the more of a chance for bonus points.
Answer: Who is Phlegm? - Phlegm is Fleur Delacour, ex-student from Beauxbatons Academy. She participated as champion of her school in the Triwzard Tournament in Harry's fourth year at Hogwarts.
Who gave them this name? - Ginny Weasley gave her that name. I guess she finds her way too pathetic and boastful not to make fun of her.
Who is Phlegm to marry? - Phlegm is to marry Bill Weasley, whom she "met" (more like "eyed") on the day of the third task of the Triwizard Tournament, when Bill and Mrs Weasley came to spend the day with Harry in substitution of his blood relatives.
What was it who almost stopped this marriage? - Fenrir Greyback, leader of the Werewolves whom Lupin is supposed to spy on in book six, attacked Bill the night Harry went with Dumbledore to get the locket-Horcrux from the cave. Draco Malfoy had found a way to let the Death Eaters into the castle, and Bill as one of the Order came to fend them off. Luckily, it wasn't full moon's time, so Bill survived the attack and has not become a werewolf himself (though afterwards he does appreciate rare meat much more than before, something Fleur finds delightful).
Thank you to zan189 for such a wonderful answer, with the most detail and correct answer.
Next question will be up soon.

Question Two
During their first year at Hogwarts, Harry's friends get into a fight during a Quidditch game. Which friends were fighting, and who were they each against?
Answer/s: (All the bits I accepted anyway, as extra detail and such, no one put all this info in, and it is not necessary to write this much, so dont be be intimidated by the amount.)
• During Harry's first year, Ron and Neville got into a fight during the second match of the Gryffindor Quidditch season, involving Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff, against Draco Malfoy, Gregory Goyle, and Vincent Crabbe. • Malfoy had previously insulted Neville, questioning the boy's very presence in Gryffindor, since Neville, at the time, had not yet gotten out of his low-self-esteem funk. Malfoy brought this up during the Quidditch game as he took the seat behind Hermione, Ron, and Neville, and further exacerbated the problem when he proceeded to insult Ron's lack of wealth, Harry's lack of parents, and, once again, insulted Neville's lack of courage and intelligence. • Neville, however, would then proceed to reply that he was worth twelve of him, but Malfoy merely laughed, claiming that if "brains were gold," then he'd be "poorer than Weasley." Ron, in all justice, however, did warn Malfoy at this point to not continue. • After resisting much taunts, however, Ron finally snapped when Malfoy brought up the Weasleys' financial problems once again, telling him, "You're in luck, Weasley, Potter's obviously spotted some money on the ground!" • At this, Ron finally snapped and lunged at Malfoy, with Neville joining in soon after, followed by Goyle and Crabbe. All this occurred precisely at the same time as Harry was in the final stretch towards catching the Snitch. • Ron fought Malfoy and Neville tried to take on both Crabbe and Goyle, but ended up in the hospital wing. • Snape is refereeing because of what happened during Harry's first ever Quidditch-match (Professor Quirrell jinxed Harry's Nimbus Two Thousand to try and throw him off and Snape had done the counter-jinx to keep it steady so Harry wouldn't fall; Harry was rescued by Hermione when she accidentally knocked over Quirrell as she was making her way past him to Snape, whom Ron and her suspected; Snape probably didn't want to take any more risks with Quirrell on the loose and decided to keep closer still to Harry during the next game; however, Dumbledore was around so that was quite unnecessary). • Earlier, Malfoy had discovered the Leg-Locker Curse and wanted to try it out on somebody. He picked Neville and also told him that he wasn't brave enough to be a Gryffindor. When he stumbled in to the common room and Neville recounted this for Harry, Ron, and Hermione, Ron told Neville that he was worth twelve of Malfoy and gave him a Chocolate Frog to make him feel better

During Harry's second year at Hogwarts, the defense again the darks art teacher decided the school needed a morale-booster... "To wash away the memories of last term". What and when was this surprise? And how did people react to this "surprise"? What was the lovely description of Harry sung to him that came as a result of this?
Answer:
On Valentine's day, Lockhart decorated the Great Hall with heart shaped confetti and dressed dwarfs up as mini-cupids. Many people were utterly horrified with this, the professors included. Snape and Mcgonagal were particularly angered by the actions of the DADA Professor. Hermione was flustered when asked if she was one of the 40-odd valentines who had written to Lockhart, causing Ron to taunt her. At the end of the day, Harry received a poem from one of the dwarfs, which was implicated that Ginny wrote, which said: "His eyes are as green as a fresh pickled toad, His hair is as dark as a blackboard, I wish he was mine, he's really divine, The hero who conquered the Dark Lord."
Well done to everyone who participated, they were all very well answered, and most much more detailed and better said than this. I apologize for the vagueness of this answer, I don't have long and need to get the new question up.

Question Four:
During his time teaching at Hogwarts, Professor Lupin teaches Harry how to defend himself against a particular creature. 1.What type of creature was it and why did he need to defend himself against it? What is the incantation needed and what does it do? 3 points(more details; more points) 2. When did Harry meet with Lupin the first time and what magical creature did they use instead of the real thing? What memories did Harry use and to what effect? (4 points, more details; more points)
Answers: 1. What type of creature was it and why did he need to defend himself against it? What is the incantation needed and what does it do? 3 points(more details; more points) He needed to defend himself against Dementors due to the horrendous memories of his mother’s death which the creatures brought back when all happiness is sucked from his mind. Expecto Patronum is the incantation to ward off the dark creatures and is called Patronus.
2. When did Harry meet with Lupin the first time and what magical creature did they use instead of the real thing? What memories did Harry use and to what effect? (4 points, more details; more points) The first question can be interpreted two ways, Harry met Lupin on the train for the first time when the Dementors came in search for Sirius Black and he had been sleeping in their compartment. Another acceptable response, the one I was looking for but did not write the question specifically enough was, the first lesson which Harry went to with Lupin for defense again Dementors was Thursday evening at eight o’clock, Harry arrived at a History of Magic room to find Lupin and a large packing case which held a Boggart, which they would be using instead of the real thing. The memories Harry used were: 1. First time riding a broom; this only caused ‘a wisp of silvery gas’ 2. Second try was when Gryffindor wont he house cup in second year; ‘white fog obscured his senses’ this time. 3. The third try he used the memory of when he found out he was a wizard and would be leaving the Dursleys’; ‘a huge silver shadow came bursting out of the end of Harry’s wand’ this time and he was able to fight it for a short time.
Warning: From here on, if you do not comply with all the rules, your answer will not be accepted for that try. Remember, your display name and house are to be included in the message and all the details are to be from the books! NOT the movies, unless specified otherwise. Any answers which are from the movies will not be accepted. This week I was lenient, but from now on, the rules are to be followed.
Anyway, on a good note. Thank you for everyone who participated this week, there were some very good answers with a great deal of detail and well structured. Well Done.

Question Five
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, what incident revealed/announced to Harry that Mad-Eye could see out the back of his head? What had led to this happening and what was the article about? What do we learn later about the truth of the episode?
Answers:
Moody transfigures Draco Malfoy into a pure white ferret and when he turns to see if Harry is okay, Crabbe goes to pick him up, but Moody says “Oh no you don’t Laddie.” While still facing Harry, which confuses him but it turned out he was talking to Crabbe. Draco was transfigured because he had tried to curse Harry when his back was turned after Harry had insulted Draco’s mother in retaliation to an insult directed at Ron’s mum’s weight. The article which had started the fight in the first place was about Mr Weasley checking on Moody when he raised the alarm, even though all it seemed to be at the time was a few animated dustbins. Later in the book, we find out that the “false alarm” was in fact the day that Moody was taken hostage and Barty Crouch jr began impersonating him to get into Hogwarts to get Harry to his master.
That is just a very basic answer.

Question Six
During their fifth year at Hogwarts, Harry, Ron, Hermione and Crookshanks were in the common room late at night finishing some homework, on this night they were visited by someone by floo and received a letter. What homework was it they were finishing? Who was the letter for and who was it from? Who visited them and what about?
Answer: The homework they were finishing was: Transfiguration for Prof Mcgonagal on inanimatus conjurus Spell, and Astronomy for Prof Sinistra essay on Jupiter’s “many moons”. The letter was for Ron from Percy. It was about Harry’s sanity and strongly suggested he should stop hanging around him. Also that his family was completely wrong in trusting Harry and he hoped he would see the “truth” soon. He also congratulated him on becoming a Prefect and made it sound that if he was like Fred and George, it would be a terrible thing. He also said that if he didn’t stop hanging around Harry he is sure to loose his badge. He also hinted at ministry take over at Hogwarts and that Ron should follow Umbridge, not Dumbledore so as to become a Head Boy once old enough. Sirius came to visit through the Floo Network and was in reply to Harry’s letter.

Question Seven
During his sixth year, Harry became rather obsessed with a particular Slytherin. 1.Which Slytherin did he obsess over? (1 point) 2.Who was directly affected due to this person's actions? (1 point for person, 1 point for extra detail for each person) 3.When did Harry realise the Slytherin appeared "a little ill"? (2 points, extra detail, extra points) 4. What do we learn about the character's mission, plan and motives before his goal is met? (5 points) 5. What is the last we see of this character during "The Half Blood Prince"? (2 points)
Answer: Harry obsesses over Draco, and during the Christmas party thrown by Slughorn he notices that he is looking "a little ill" for the first time. This is the same night Harry follows him and starts to believe that Snape was trying to help him for his own reasons, not for Dumbledore. Draco's mission was to murder Dumbledore, at first he was calm and collect, planning on using the cabinets, but gets stressed and scared and ends up hurting others such as Ron and Katie Belle with undeveloped plans before resorting back to the orignal idea. The last of this character we see is when he is running away from the castle with Snape after his mission was completed, but not by himself, but Severus Snape as pleaded to by Dumbledore.

Question Eight. *SPOILERS!!!* Finally we meet the end of the series, where there is no set location or the hassle of homework. Tell me this: 1. What was the 'hassle' which replaced homework, that is what took Harry and his friends from their education for the year? (a point for each "thing" within this book) 2. Who directly helped Harry overcome these hassles within the Deathly Hallows? (1 point per person) 3. Who died? (1 point per person, details (such as how, what side they were on, etc) bring extra points)
Answers:
1. The horcruxs were the hassle, the specific ones from in Deathly Hallows were: the cup, diadem, harry, and nagini. 2. Hermione and Ron directly helped, however I did accept other answers. 3. Too many to be stated here.

Question nine: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone: For how long was Harry forced to stay at the Dursley's before he attended Hogwarts for the first time from when he finds out his heritage? (2 points) What were some of the changes in his stay there compared to the original state of care and what were the given reasons for this change in Petunia and Vernon? (1 point for each change)
Remember: more detail, more points. I don't mind if you babble as long as the answer is in it somewhere. House and name are still required for points to be awarded.
Answer:
He was there for a month after he found out he was a wizard. For the most part he was ignored by the Dursleys, for many reasons, from fear of what he is, to what he could do, also from their anger at him now knowing what they had hidden from him for so long.
I think only one person read the question correctly, but that was my bad, I didn't word it very well. Thank you to everyone who participated.
