*The info of this lesson was also helpfully provided by a spirituality site on google whose name I forget*
I apoligize for the delay, but cosmic forces beyond my control had forced to me to be behind in my work schedule. So to make up for it, we move on with my longest lesson yet.
Now if I'm done making excuses, let us move on...
Palm Reading. Another method for predicting the future, except in this case, it usually only pertains to one person-the person that you are reading the palm of.
There are three definite characteristics to keep in mind when palm reading: The shape of their hand, the lines in their palm, and their fingers.
Hands
Pointed Hand: This hand is characteristic of its delicacy and grace. It has an almond shape where it is wider and round at the base and narrower as you move up towards pointed fingers. The thumb may also be long and flexible. The hand is often pale in colour, and the lines are often shallow. Less of a doer, appreciates art and beauty. Typical occupations include, hair-styling arts, cosmetic industry.
Square Hand: This hand is smooth and firm. The palm is usually as wide as it is long, and it has a fairly square base. The fingers also have a square nature, and they can be short or long, and smooth and knotted. There tends to be few lines, however deep and clear. A balanced and earthy person, solid values and energy, materialistic and practical. Typical occupations include, successful business men who often use their hands.
Cone-Shaped Hand: This hand is characteristic of its tubular fingers and smooth round base. It is broader at the base and tends to be fairly flat as well. Tapers a bit. Wavy lines. A philosopher, inventive and creative, interested in theory as well. Typical occupations include, educators, lawyer and artists.
Spade-Shaped Hand: This hand is characteristic of its square base. The base is also narrower than the top of the palm. Displays knotty fingers, as well as fairly broad and square. An inventor, a do-it yourself type of person, great manual dexterity. Typical occupations include, engineer, decorator, mechanic.
Mixed Hand: This hand is at first difficult to point out, they also do not simply represent a mixture of the other types of hands. This hand has a mixture of shapes, where it is square at the base of the thumb and oval or rounded at the heel. The fingers also have diverse characteristics. Some knuckles may be smooth in some areas and knotty in others. A generalist whose personality combines creativity and practicality. Typical occupations include, journalists, teachers, and researchers.
Lines
Life Line: The Life Line represents your vitality and the length of your life. This is the most important line on your hand and will always be present. The Life Line is the easiest to recognize and helps to determine where your other lines are. Generally if the line swoops down to about an inch above the base of the palm, then it shows a life expectancy of about 70 years for women, and 60-65 for men. This line begins on the edge of the palm, between the index finger and the thumb. It extends across the middle of the palm and wraps around the base of the thumb.
Head Line: Being the second most important line, the Head Line deals with your beliefs, your philosophy, your attitude on and how you approach life. It is a representation of your mentality and intelligence. Because it is so important, the Head Line must be present on the palm. The Head Line begins just above the life line, on the side of the palm between the thumb and the index finger, and spans horizontally across the palm.
Heart Line: The Heart Line deals with all the emotions and events that are centered around love, whether it be your ability to love, or be loved. In general, the stronger and deeper the line, the stronger and warmer your devotions. The Heart Line is the horizontal line above the Head Line. It begins beneath either the index finger or middle finger and extends across to the edge of the palm on the side of the little finger.
Health Line: The Health Line deals with the material well being as much as the physical. This is especially so when the Life Line may be missing or faint. If a person has very faint fate, fame and success lines, then the Health Line also plays a strong part in the development of material wealth. The Health Line can be found extending from below the little finger, down across the palm, to the base of the thumb. Sometimes it may even join with the Life Line.
Fate Line: The Fate Line, also known as the line of destiny, tells the effect society and world events have upon your life (things that come to you from outside). The stronger and deeper the line, the more strongly fate controls your life. If the line has many breaks or changes of direction, it means that you are prone to many changes in your life from circumstances you can't control. This line begins in the middle of the palm, near the wrist, and runs towards the base of the middle finger.
Fame Line: The Line of Fame reinforces the Line of Fate. Sometimes this line may be missing on the palm, in this case one's future fame must be looked for in other areas of the palm. The Line of Fame influences the social rewards of success. Those who lack this line may still be successful but may will do without public acclaim. This line starts at the base of the hand, and moves its way up to below the ring finger, running parallel to the Line of Fate.
Marriage/Children Lines: Marriage is indicated by the little line (or lines) that are located just below the base of the little finger. Several light lines in this area will indicate romances. The lines that are strong and clear in this area will indicate marriage. The closer the lines are to the base of the little finger, the later in life these marriages will be.
Money Line: The Money Lines don't indicate material wealth, so much as they influence, in some hands, skill in acquiring cash and how it can be done. (note: if you are looking for lines that influence success, material wealth and security, look at the lines pertaining to fame, health and fate.) A line that runs from the base of the thumb, to below the index finger ending in a star, indicates a natural talent for moneymaking
Travel Line: The Travel Lines are a major indication of the trips taken throughout your life that have had a penetrating impact on your life. The Travel Lines start from the edge of the palm at the heel, opposite the thumb, and extend horizontally. If a travel line intersects with the Life Line, then a trip will be made under circumstances of health, or your health will be affected by a trip.
*The only lines not discussed here are the Luck, Spirit, and Sex Lines, mostly for various and obvious reasons. Especially that last one...*
Fingers
Length: The length of your fingers are relative to the size of your palm. On average, the longest finger is about seven-eighths the size of your palm, and if it is just as long as your palm, then your fingers are considered long. Short fingers are shorter than seven-eighths of the palm. In relation to the fingers, the thumb is normally higher than the bottom joining of the index finger. The index finger however reaches a third of the way up the nail of the middle finger. The ring finger normally reaches just above the nail of the middle finger and the little finger should reach the top joint of the ring finger. The length and size of a person's fingers can classify them as being intellectual, emotional or even a more physical person. Heavy fingers show a more physical nature. Long and slim signifies more of an emotional and aggressive type of person. Short and thick shows that the person is very emotionally comfortable. If your index finger is longer than the normal length, you tend to be a leader and tell others what to do. If it is shorter however, then you tend to sit back and let others control you. If your ring finger is longer than the normal height, you may tend to have an artistic talent, as well as a reckless and wild nature. If your little finger is shorter than the normal length, it shows that you lack the ability to influence others. If it is longer, then you tend to be very articulate, and good at writing and selling.
Spaces: It is also important to note the way the fingers are spaced apart. With your hand in a relaxed position examine how some fingers stand apart from others and how some stick close to the adjacent fingers. An independent mind is signified when your little finger stands apart from the ring finger, with a great deal of space between them. An art related life is shown when the ring finger sticks close to the middle finger. Your fate will also aid in your success. If the middle finger and the index finger stick close together, it shows that you will gain authority and rank through your own goals and aspirations. If they stand apart, then your position will come from other means.
Smoothness: The smoothness or knottiness of the fingers and their joints is a good indication of which area of life a person would most likely be active in. It also deals with the instinctive, practical and intellectual attainment in regards to the fields which each finger represents. The middle finger deals with service (goals, restrictions). The index finger deals with authority (position, wealth, happiness). The ring finger deals with fulfillment (fame, success). The little finger deals with activity (health, mind, commercial ventures). If your joints are generally smooth, then you may tend to be passive, but at the same time quite impulsive which may sometimes lead to carelessness. If your top knuckles are smooth and your middle ones are knotty, then you are a person whose intellect and practicality work well together. A strong instinctive drive is characteristic of well developed knuckles. The fleshiness of the pads inside the fingers as well as the flatness of those areas show a good development or lack of it in regards to the attributes of each finger. Well developed balls on the ends of the fingers show a strong intellect and courtesy of the mind. A flatness represents a lack of intellectual insight regarding the attributes of the respective fingers.
Shape: The shape of the fingers would normally correspond to the shape of the hand, however most hands represent a mixture of finger types. This mixture helps to create a person a diversity of qualities and talents. The shape of the fingernail is also used in trying to determine the type of finger. Pointed-shaped fingers often have almond shaped nails; cone-shaped fingers have oval nails; square fingers have square nails; spade-shaped fingers have square-based nails which broaden at the tip. A square finger represents a down-to-earth quality in respect to the attributes of the finger. A pointed finger shows an artistic nature. The spade-shaped finger represents an inventiveness. The cone-shaped finger represents an imaginative quality. In the situation of a mixed finger type, for example, if a person had a square type of ring finger, they would generally be artistically inclined, however if they also had a pointed index finger, then their occupation would probably not be art related. Straight fingers represent a person who is honest, direct and clear-headed. Crooked fingers show a devious and malicious quality. In regards to the nails, long nails show a soft heart; short nails show a paranoid and uneasy nature; wide nails show quarrelsome qualities; narrow nails show a conservative and refined nature.
Rule of "Thumb"
The thumb is probably one of the most important aspects of our body. We readily use it almost every second of the day. The palm has been closely tied with the development of the brain and the eye, but in terms of palmistry, the thumb deals a great deal with a person's will.
The Ideal Thumb: The most ideal thumb is one that is a good length and stretches up to around the middle of the first joint of the index finger. It should be nice and firm, but at the same time moderately flexible (when the hand is spread, the thumb should easily stand a fair distance from the rest of the fingers). In terms of the shape, the thumb should have a well rounded upper section which tapers and slims down in the middle. This type of thumb represents someone who has a balanced will, a logical mind, and love. The angle made between the thumb and the index finger is known as the "angle of generosity." The farther you can bend back the thumb, the more generous the person is. A stiff thumb that sticks to the side of the palm shows great cautiousness and conservative nature with money. If the thumb naturally hides within the palm, then the person is usually fearful and full of anxiety. The farther back the top portion of the thumb can be bent back, the more easy going the person is. If it is fairly rigid, than the person is of a stiff nature. The mobility of the thumb represents the person's willingness to adapt to change, without being too much of a pushover.
Segments: The thumb is divided into three sections. The top section represents the will; the middle section deals with the logic; the bottom section deals with love. If the top section is thin and flat, it usually shows a weak will and an unwillingness to take on responsibility. As the top section increases in firmness and fullness, the person's will increases, their nature also moves from aggressiveness to almost self-centeredness. If the top section is very firm and almost overdeveloped, then the person can tend to be egotistical and materialistic. When the middle section is full and heavy, it represents a slight forcefulness towards others. When this section is very thin, then the person tends to be quite picky and even delicate in some situations. A slightly slim mid section represents a reasonably logical mind. If the bottom section is overdeveloped when compared to the size of the rest of the thumb, then the person tends to allow their emotions to rule ahead of logic. If however it is proportionally more thin and flat, then the person tends to lack the ability to coordinate determination with their mental goals.
Proportion and Size: The proportion of the different sections of the thumb in relation to each other is also very important. The actual size and length of the entire thumb is important as well. A weak will is represented by someone whose upper joint is small when compared to the bottom section. The person's will dominates their intellect if the top section is longer than the middle section. If the middle section is long compared to the top section, then the person tends to have large ideas, but does have the discipline to carry them out. If the length of a person's thumb reaches up to the middle joint of the index finger, then they are strong minded and strong willed. If it barely makes it to the first joint, then the person shows poor mental development.
Homework
Using these guidelines/notes about Palm Reading, read someone's palm. It can be a friend, a relative, some random guy on the street- it's your choice. (you can do your own palm if you wish) Make sure to make a note of the shape of their hands and their fingers as well as their lines. After you have read their/your palm, write a few paragraphs or more about your results and what you think it means for their/your future. Send it to me in a PM in about a week or two.
