The biggest way to see how Muggles view the "magical world" is through Fairy Tales.
The date of origin for Fairy Tales is unknown. It was so long ago that they were not passed down through writing, but through spoken word and dramatic plays. It is thought that these tales were introduced to the Muggle world through our known magical world a long time ago, when barriers between our two cultures were less severe. As time grew, these stories were twisted from fact to make them more appealing and believable to Muggle children and adults.
Fairy Tales can contain a great deal of characters. Some have witches and wizards, of course, but others have goblins, ghouls, giants, trolls, elves, and pixies. Some contain animals such as wolves and mice, which some believe to be simply an animagus showing off their skills.
There are many typical phrases that Muggles use in these Fairy Tales. "Once upon a time" is a typical start, letting the reader know that the event/events happened a long time ago. Muggles sometimes refer to a "Fairy Tale ending" which means that everyone lived "happily ever after."
Muggles hear Fairy Tales their entire lives. Hearing these stories as children shapes the Muggle view of the magical world. For instance, most witches are portrayed as old and very ugly in appearance. They are generally seen as manipulative and violent. This is very different from reality, but this is a solid base on how Muggles view the magical world.
