wow, so many people were disappointed with this movie. I know that there were some issues, but there were many, MANY less than in all of the others. Every movie up until now had disappointed me so utterly that I hadn't even wanted to see number 5. In 5 I didn't like that Bellatrix supposedly killed Sirius, rather than the veil, but really that was the only problem I had.
As for Cho betraying Harry, she really didn't- Cho gave him away under the use of Veritaserum, so what really made them fall apart was the fact that Harry didn't trust her enough to let her explain herself. I would have liked a Marietta, but it would have taken more time to introduce her character and then still more time to have Harry and Cho fighting over her trustworthiness, so it just seemed like it was simpler to make Cho be the one to give it away. In a movie with so many time constraints you have to expect a few simplificaions.
Overall, though, the fifth was MUCH better than all of the other movies in the aspects of acting, character development, set design, and just plain holding to the plot. I mean... 4 was so jumpy and random and... pointless that it hurt for me to watch, not to mention that it broke from the book in far too many ways. Half the movie seemed to be about the stupid Yule Ball, and the tasks were completely oversimplified. I mean, where was the Sphinx? And... the bushes attacked them? Come on.
Three was cut down too much as well, and I'm never going to get over how horrible that werewolf looked. They're supposed to be subtly different from normal wolves. SUBTLY. Not standing up on their hind legs and looking like fuzzy humans.
The second movie was probably the second best, but the kids just didn't seem believeable to me. Their acting gets better per movie, but back toward the beginning like this it was just... I don't know, it looked like it was designed for six year olds to enjoy.
Not quite so much as the first one, though, where everything was bright and shiny, overacted, and the sets were so squashed together it was ridiculous. I mean, Hagrid's hut was about ten feet away from the castle. And Daniel Radcliff could not act back then, I'm sorry. "Ahh. My scar. It burns." Very sad.
So yeah, I was impressed with the fifth one, though obviously it still could have been better. I agree with Marquis Black: they shouldn't have made the movies at all. They should have been done as miniserieses, where they wouldn't have been forced to simplify things, or they could have just let people read the books!!
